Blue House

Perched blue house
anchored
crowns of granite
incrustations
surround
the sound of satisfaction
grins under surrendered blue sky sighs
weathers pretenders like Juan without a twitch
a champion’s chin
standing over a contender’s crumpled eastern gulf stream wind
out of breath
beaten back
again

Perched blue house

Lobsters
red
twisting to guitar riffs
in boiling pots
dancing from life to dead
party crustacean
steaming hot
give me a bib
some butter and garlic
mixed
play that sh*t again
Kid

Lobsters
red

I’m just a man
that dreams
in flavored creams
of
Nova Scotia summer
blue sky strumming
hummer’s bumming
gas price stunning
but I don’t care
it’s life’s two weeks notice
leave me the … (momma taught me not to say some words)
alone
listen to the rock
from the rocks
that mock the shock
from Atlantic swells of
schizophrenia
and flocks of
double crested cormorants
inland hiding
until their time to fly good bye
for awhile
again

Perched blue house

Lobsters
red

My Nova Scotia Summer

H*ll yes

Barkeep
Give me a double shot
of that dream on rocks
and tell Kid to play that sh*t
again

  1. Henry, this is just so wonderful. I want to go there and spend a month alone, uninterruped, and write. I love how you deleted the expletives while letting us know exactly what you want to say. Do they have golf courses near there? Aside from walking, it’s my only exercise. So, write, walk, golf. Oh, and eat lobster!

Henry! This is marvelous my dear… not just stream of thoughts, but well-worded and vivid ones. I really like the part that starts “Im just a man…”

  3. dude you think in song lyrics…i could totally hear this being sung…

    I’m just a man

    of
    Nova Scotia summer
    blue sky strumming

hot lines man…now pass the lobster you know…smiles….

  4. very cool…this sounds like a very cool song to me…so take your guitar man and sing it for us…blue house and red lobster..heck..love this henry

  5. i enjoyed the way you started each stanza, firmly. “perched blue house”, “lobsters”, “i’m just a man”, “barkeep”. these give this piece a grounded-ness for the chaotic and colorful contentedment that ensues.

  6. I much enjoyed the trip through your stream, Henry….like other’s have said, I felt I was there…Novia Scotia summer….sounds sublime 🙂

  7. Oh to be in Nova Scotia for the summer, you’ve given me a serious case of ocean ache, and Maritime ache! Have one for me at the Blue House!

  8. Love this! Love eating lobster too, but hate to cook them. Once I’ve looked into their beady little eyes and watched their antennae waving, I really feel terrible about plunging them into boiling water. Wish I could head east now to see the blue house and the double crested cormorants.

  9. Wow Henry – lobster – Nova Scotia Summ er and the Blue house – sitting on a rock – strumming – what a scene – I want to be there – right now – Love Lib

  10. poemsofhateandhope says:

Wow- thoughts darting all over your consciousness in this one. You created a dreamlike image of this place, this house, and after I finished reading I studied the picture for a bit- it was almost like fantasy…I want to go there….eat the redo ster and sit on the rocks….great to see into your mind!

  11. Henry, I invite you to my back yard, but I’m on the brown side of those waters where the mighty Bay of Fundy brings us the highest tides in the world and some wicked mud sliding…who says we can’t get a little dirty between the lobster and the kitchen stomp…right? Such an awesome write…reminds me of my blessings (and considering we’re waiting to hear if we are soon to be Northern Labrador bound…it might just be enough to make me change my mind on moving!)
