Part Two

Dressed in black

When you’re shot in the back

And lying in the mud

When you almost die

You get used to the black

Spade diggin’ a hole

Robes mumblin’ Latin

When you almost die

You get used to the black

Wond’rin’ ‘bout soul

Alone with why’s

When you almost die

You get used to the black

Lookin’ for light

SEARCHIN’ FOR FIGHT

When you almost die

You get used to the black

When you get shot in the back

When you almost die

When she leaves you for smack

You get used to the black

Softly Scalding

By David Dory

She sighs so softly lying bare

Love’s negligee a scent as rose

Teasing me with scalding stare

Unstable I avoid her stare

Eyes fight to keep their curtains closed

She sighs so softly lying bare

Sardonic laughter stiffens hair

My Franken-girl without her clothes

Teasing me with scalding stare

Regretting birth of this nightmare

Surviving scars that fuel my woes

She sighs so softly lying bare

Stained by darkness void of care

She does not feel the sting of no

Teasing me with scalding stare

I cannot run for lack of air

I cannot mute her sultry notes

She sighs so softly lying bare

Teasing me with scalding stare

Another Girl

By Sarah Joncas

Suddenly

I’m reminded of another girl,

one who has seen evil.

She doesn’t wear her past like an earring in her nose,

but hidden

like a tattooed inner thigh,

underneath white cotton pleats.

Yet it is

her eyes,

pupils mined from the darkest black.

Her knife works quick;

in and out,

a brisk kiss on my cheek;

a drafty wisp on my skin.

Suddenly,

suddenly,

I remember –

my sin.

Days

Of all the days – that were days in the days – when days were weeks,

I missed out on the most days; the lost days;

where one day; Friday – was king.

I’d be ten years younger – if only –

the party days mattered.

And now –

well –

the other days – the lost days – count.

Cr-ASH

Slow m o t I o n
I fall
I fall
Cold air whispers by – and – by – and
Cries
Fly – please – fly
As I fall – and – fall – and
Grab for angel wings
Just – out – of – r e a c h
And NOW
The crash rushes closer –
And closer
Spinning
The crash – spinning – quicker – closer
Coldest air screaming by – and – by – and
Cries – with evaporating tears –
FLY – FLY – or –

Piranha Fear

Why I fear piranhas.

So low
So alone
So not – home
I can hear my heart
I can hear my heart
Beat solo
And the echo hurts
So low
So – in my bones
So not – so not – home

So I play
The rhythm

Piranhas ain’t got shit on you

So I play – the rhythm
Of a thousand bites

I can hear my heart
I can hear my heart

So I toke

The rhythm

Of a cold blunt

And watch the smoke – blow away

So I play

Solo

So not – home

But – so – so – stoned
