Oxen flex muscled legs
pull through fields of wet
my mind pushes to resist
Elephants tug trees
trunks of strength
fall mighty ideals
Tanks crush protest
roll over heart’s soul
lone voice still echo
Shells silence resistance
explode life in pieces
resistance resurrects
My mind mends pain
my mind stitches flesh
my mind pushes to resist
Elephants will march
Tanks can crush
My mind defies
Oh, horrors. This is so timely. Nicely done.
nice….between you and glenn we might just start a revolution tonight…i like the progression in this….and a scary reality for some…not us…yet…but….resistance will never truly be silenced…
“Tanks crush protest
roll over heart’s soul
lone voice still echo”
That iconic image summed up in your lines.
Unforgettable.
The whole series of tri-lines is like a rich Xmas pudding.
Let’s pour some brandy over it and set i alight 🙂
Good contrast between the armada of fauna and the armada of steel, and the short-line concept keeps the tension high.
My mind mends pain
my mind stitches flesh
my mind pushes to resist
I related best to these lines, They spoke to my soul. wonderful
A horrific look at the world we live in. Getting scarier day by day.
Nicely done, Henry.
I like how you use the form but retain your voice – always so unique – always so you! The third line in each tercet is so strong, the voice of one, the ability of the individual to resist, to defy, to stand strong, to endure, to prevail rings through the poem and the vehicle adds to the momentum. Well done!
Love the prevailing strength in this…yes!
I love how the elephants come full circle here, Henry!
Nice! Resistance is not futile – we can dissent 🙂
good stuff, strong close
Oh I shuddered…that picture is so entrenched in memory but I love how you finish… Such strong powerful words… great write!
